Drupal Update Manager

Imagine:

drupal update<br/> drupal dist-upgrade

Some might say one-click update in recent version of WordPress is risky but usability-wise, it's damn cool feature. While Drupaller still need to download tarball, FTP/SSH and run the update script, WordPress user just click and... BOOM.

Well, (hopefully) not anymore. Drupal 7 would have something similar:

Few excerpt:

We’re trying to provide a way that users can get the same user friendliness of a package manager like Synaptic. Where updates and new installs are just a few clicks, no geek gadget belt.

Very promising!

it would be cool to have something like that. ^ ^ turning all modules off in D6 is a nightmare.

This would pretty good for Drupal and about time that there is a mechanism for something as important as keeping the project up to date and patched up.
They are learning about post launch process.

I love it!

Why not use drush now? works with 5, 6, or 7 branch of Drupal. I'm loving it.

It really is just

> drush update

(although currently it can't update your drupal distribution yet, only modules and themes, it's still darn convenient. I just updated 20 contrib modules with that in one go)

@chris

what if i don't have SSH acount? That's the current situation of Blognone.

Of course, it's a good feature to add, no doubt. I'll be happy to have just one button to click to update everything to latest releases too. I referred to drush because it's available now, and also do other useful stuffs, e.g. simulation mode.

"BOOM"

Krabbbbb :D
